HR Associate
The Old Globe, the Tony Award-winning regional theatre located in the heart of San Diego's beautiful Balboa Park, is seeking an experienced Human Resources Associate for a full-time, benefited position. Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Human Resources, the HR Associate will play a key role in supporting the administrative, operational, and technological functions of the HR department, helping ensure an effective, compliant, and positive employee experience.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
General
- Assists in execution of core HR functions including onboarding, offboarding, employee records, and compliance documentation.
- Assist in maintenance and further development of HRIS platform, currently Paycom, (e.g., employee data updates, report generation, system audits.)
- Support payroll coordination and benefits administration using digital tools and employer portals.
- Coordinate training programs and track completion using learning management systems (LMS).
- Maintain and optimize applicant tracking systems (ATS) and assist with recruitment workflows.
- Run reports and analyze HR metrics and provide actionable insights.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local labor regulations.
- Run reports to aid in requested reporting, including for grants and compliance reporting.
- Draft, edit, and maintain HR documents including policies, employee handbook updates, job descriptions, offer letters, and internal communications.
- Assist in policy development and ensure written materials are consistent, accurate, and legally compliant.
- Respond to employee inquiries and support a positive employee experience.
- Other duties as assigned
Technology-Focused HR Responsibilities
- Automate HR processes using HRIS technology and creating processing to streamline activity.
- Build and manage digital forms and workflows for employee surveys, onboarding, and employee information collection.
- Track employee data, onboarding workflows, compliance checklists, and HR project management dashboards.
- Create, edit, and manage fillable HR documents, PDFs, and e-signature workflows using Adobe Acrobat as needed.
- Maintain organized and secure digital filing systems for employee records and compliance documentation.
- Generate reports and dashboards from HR data systems to support decision-making and audits.

The successful candidate will have the following skills and abilities:
- 2–4 years of progressive experience in Human Resources, HR operations, HR technology, or a related administrative function.
- Demonstrated experience using HR technologies and systems:
- o Experience working with HRIS platforms, payroll systems, and other HR technology (Paycom strongly preferred).
- o Proficiency with Microsoft Office software; strong skills in Word and Excel required
- o Experience working with digital form building tools (such as Adobe Acrobat, FillOut, or Airtable)
- Working knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
- Strong administrative, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact comfortably with staff, patrons, and vendors.
- High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism, with a commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Adaptability to manage multiple priorities, learn new technologies, and navigate changing processes in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility to work varied schedules, including occasional evenings or weekends as needed.
Pay Rate: Hourly range is $30.00-$34.00. This is a full-time, non-exempt on-site position with benefits including 401(k) after first year employment. Must be able to pass applicable background check. Multilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
