Description
Position Title: Sr Sys & Development Analyst/Specialist
Location: Des Moines, IA, United States
Description:
Working with significant independence and under general direction, the systems and development specialist provides advanced technical expertise, architectural leadership, and operational ownership of the AVEVA PI System (formerly OSIsoft). This includes PI Data Archive, PI Asset Framework (AF), PI Vision, interfaces/connectors, buffering technologies, and related integrations. The specialist ensures secure, reliable, and compliant operational data flows supporting utility operations across OT, IT, security, compliance, and analytics functions. The role combines deep platform knowledge, cross-functional leadership, and the ability to troubleshoot and coordinate resolution of complex, high impact issues.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities of the Senior Systems & Development Analyst position include:
- Supports the stability and reliability of the PI platform by acting as a primary responder to reported issues, independently performing troubleshooting and resolving routine to moderately complex incidents within established standards while maintaining accurate ticket updates.
- Independently performs routine to moderately complex PI platform maintenance, including issue investigation, assistance with patches and upgrades, configuration changes under established standards, interface support, certificate updates, and coordinated deployment activities.
- Provides customer support for PI applications and interfaces by researching documented issues, gathering diagnostic information, submitting vendor tickets, and coordinating followup to resolve product questions or enhancement needs.
- Configures, documents, and implements changes for supported PI components and interfaces following established procedures, design specifications, and change management standards.
- Collaborates with end users to understand business practices, operational timelines, and analytical dependencies that rely on PI data; uses this context to clarify impact and prioritize support activities.
- Reviews upstream and downstream data flows and workflows to understand how business processes influence PI system behavior, integration dependencies, and operational support needs.
- Creates and maintains clear technical documentation and system diagrams, ensuring configuration records, documentation repositories, and work tracking systems remain accurate and current.
- Collaborates with internal IT teams across infrastructure, security, networking, data, cloud, OT, and application domains to support coordinated, endtoend PI system operations.
- Maintains accurate work tracking by documenting incidents, requests, and planned work; communicates progress, identifies dependencies, and raises risks or blockers when discovered.
- Independently resolves complex or ambiguous PI platform issues when symptoms extend beyond available documentation, coordinating with vendors and crossfunctional teams as needed.
- Provides technical leadership during complex or highimpact incidents by coordinating resources, guiding troubleshooting strategy, and ensuring timely communication.
- Leads rootcause analysis for significant incidents and defines corrective and preventative actions to improve longterm reliability.
- Designs and maintains complex PI configurations, integrations, and interfaces within established architectural standards.
- Mentors team members and supports consistent troubleshooting, documentation, and support practices.
- Provides independent oncall operational support as part of an oncall rotation and serves as an escalation resource during afterhours support when needed.
- Performs any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
In addition to the above, responsibilities of the Systems & Development Specialist position include:
- Provides enterpriselevel technical and architectural ownership of the AVEVA PI System platform, including standards for security, high availability, disaster recovery, integrations, and operational governance.
- Serves as the final escalation point for complex, highimpact, or timesensitive PI system incidents and leads incident command and technical decisionmaking.
- Architects and evolves PI security models, highavailability and disasterrecovery designs, and integration strategies to ensure longterm reliability and maintainability.
- Performs deep rootcause analysis for systemic or recurring issues and drives longterm corrective and preventative actions across teams and vendors.
- Leads crossfunctional planning for major PI upgrades, platform modernization initiatives, and integration changes; identifies risks and interdependencies.
- Defines documentation, configuration, and operational governance standards to ensure audit readiness and platform consistency.
- Leads vendor strategy, major upgrades, roadmap alignment, and escalations; evaluates longterm product fit.
- Provides technical input to project planning, prioritization, and operational readiness activities.
- Provides independent oncall operational support as part of an oncall rotation and provides highestlevel escalation coverage when scheduled.
Qualifications:
Requirements for the Senior Systems & Development Analyst position include:
- Education Bachelor's degree in management information systems (MIS), computer science or related technical field or equivalent work experience. (Typically four years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)
- Minimum of six years of experience supporting application or operational data platforms.
- Handson experience administering the AVEVA PI System.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex troubleshooting and incident response activities.
- Strong analytical, problemsolving, and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple concurrent tasks and operational responsibilities.
- Availability for oncall responsibilities as part of an oncall rotation.
In addition to the above, requirements for the Systems & Development Specialist position include:
- Minimum of eight years of progressive experience supporting and leading enterprise application or operational data platforms.
- Expertlevel knowledge of the AVEVA PI System in complex or regulated environments.
- Demonstrated experience defining platform architecture, standards, and governance.
- Established ability to lead major incidents, rootcause initiatives, and platform modernization efforts.
- Demonstrated technical leadership and mentorship capability.
