Description
What you'll do...
- Provide expert guidance on HIPAA, state health privacy laws, and emerging regulations.
- Lead health data privacy risk identification and mitigation, developing compliance programs and frameworks with cross-functional partners.
- Advise on AI and health data issues, including data provenance, algorithmic decision-making involving PHI, and AI governance.
- Support breach response and regulatory reporting.
- Draft and negotiate health data and services contracts.
- Develop privacy policies, playbooks, and training materials.
- Partner with compliance, product, and technology teams on emerging health privacy and AI legislation.
- Foster strong partnerships with business leaders to align legal strategies with corporate goals.

As Senior Counsel, you will provide strategic legal guidance to support business objectives, promote compliance with regulatory requirements and mitigate risks across multiple operational areas. This role involves advising on complex legal matters, supporting contract development and the product lifecycle, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to implement effective legal strategies. Your expertise will contribute to informed decision-making and the achievement of Walmart’s business goals in a dynamic environment, while fostering a culture of integrity and ethical conduct.
Requirements
What you'll bring:
- Deep knowledge of federal and state health privacy laws.
- Extensive experience providing legal advice and developing risk mitigation strategies.
- Familiarity with AI applications in healthcare, including data provenance, training, and privacy protections.
- Experience advising on compliance programs and data protection strategies.
- Strong contract drafting, review, and negotiation skills.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable guidance for non-legal stakeholders.
- Strategic, business-oriented thinker with bias toward timely, decisive action and ability to balance legal risk with business objectives.
- Comfort operating in fast-moving, ambiguous environments with multiple competing priorities.
- Proven collaborator across product, engineering, and business teams.
- Experience leading cross-functional initiatives.
- In-house experience strongly preferred.
Minimum Qualifications...
