Louisiana State University invites applications for the position of Manager for Student Employment Development. Reporting to the Program Director, Student Employment, this position serves as a member of the Student Employment Office within the LSU Olinde Career Center. The Manager is responsible for collaborating on the development and leading the implementation of a scalable experiential learning framework within on-campus student employment, equipping supervisors and departments with the tools and training needed to create meaningful, career-connected experiences for student employees.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE:
- Collaborate on the development and lead the implementation of a scalable experiential learning framework that enhances on-campus student employment into intentional, career-connected experiences.
- Develop training, tools, and resources that equip supervisors and departments to create high-impact student employment experiences that support student learning and Ready to Roar Career Proficiency development.
- Design assessment and partnership strategies that strengthen the impact and institutional value of student employment as a contributor to student success.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR IMPACT:
Enhancing the Student Employment Experience: The Student Employment Office has built an operational and compliance foundation. With this strong foundation in place, the Manager of Student Employment Development will have the opportunity to build on that infrastructure to redefine on-campus student employment as a high-impact experiential learning practice. Working collaboratively with the Program Director, the Manager will design and implement a scalable framework to influence how student employment drives career readiness, skill development, and overall student success. This framework will help student employees identify, build, and articulate career readiness gained through their on-campus employment.
Elevating the Value of Student Employment: The Manager will play a key role in influencing and elevating how student employment is understood, valued, and prioritized by departments and supervisors. This position will help shift the perception of student employees from workforce support to an intentional development of student growth and career readiness. Through strategic partnerships, assessment of outcomes, and campus engagement, the Manager will work to establish student employment as a recognized contributor to student success and career readiness.
Building Supervisor Capacity: The quality of a student’s on campus work experience is directly tied to their supervisor and the role in which they function. The Manager will be instrumental in improving the quality and consistency of student employee experiences by training the trainer, developing tools, and creating a community of practice. The Manager will equip supervisors to be intentional mentors and educators to enhance student employee learning outcomes.

ABOUT THE DIVISION OF STUDENT AFFAIRS PRIORITIES:
Three priorities guide our work in the Division of Student Affairs. Foremost, we maintain a commitment to quality which is rooted in the belief that LSU students deserve our best effort. Every interaction we have with students should communicate care, relevance, polish, and attention to detail. We work to ensure every space, place, and staff-to-student interaction communicates a sense of home to students. Finally, we design programs, services, events, and experiences with everyone in mind.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Experiential Learning Design & Management (55%): Collaborate on the development and lead the implementation of a scalable framework that elevates on-campus employment as a high-impact experiential learning, resulting in intentional, career-connected student experiences. Establish program standards, learning outcomes, and consistent expectations that define high-quality student employment experiences. Align on-campus student employment with the institutional Ready to Roar Career Proficiencies and develop tools and resources to support implementation across departments. Foster relationships with campus partners to embed and advance experiential learning in student employment, advocating for its value as an institutional practice. Design and manage assessment strategies to evaluate student learning outcomes and program effectiveness. Collect, analyze, and report data to inform program improvements and demonstrate impact. Stay current with national best practices in experiential and work-integrated learning to inform ongoing program design.
Training and Development (25%): Develop and facilitate comprehensive training and development initiatives for student employees and on-campus supervisors. Conduct departmental consultations and partner with departments to review student roles and identify opportunities to enhance quality and learning outcomes. Build a community of practice for on-campus supervisors that fosters learning, peer connection, and commitment to high-impact supervision. Design and deliver training resources and learning opportunities that support effective supervision and student skill development.
Student Employment Operations (10%): Support the operation of the Student Employment Office and related processes. Maintain a working knowledge of student employment policies, procedures, and processes to effectively support students and departments. Utilize Workday to support student employment processes, data management, and reporting. Contribute to the overall core functions and initiatives of the Student Employment Office.
Quality Control (5%): Ensures outputs of the Student Employment Office and experience of students and departments reflects a high degree of quality. Embraces and executes the marginal gains approach and seeks to improve the level of all services, events, programs, and experiences in the department for continuous improvement every academic year.
Other Duties as Assigned (5%): Other duties as assigned by the Program Director, Student Employment, and the Senior Director. This includes but is not limited to: efforts that support broad division/institution efforts including at least 40 hours per year spent helping divisional initiatives such as Move-In Day, Welcome Week, Family Weekend, Disability Services Finals Testing, other special projects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree
- Three years full-time experience in a closely related field.
- Experience in project or program management.
- LSU values skills, experience, and expertise. Candidates who have relevant experience in key job responsibilities are encouraged to apply— a degree is not required as long as the candidate meets the required years of experience specified in the job description.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- Professional experience within Human Resource Development, Workforce Development, Student Employment, or Experiential Learning.
- Experience developing, facilitating, or coordinating educational initiatives or training and development.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS/EXPECTATIONS:
As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality.
