Description
Description: This is a maintenance position with Allen Township. The employee performs a variety of tasks related to the Township infrastructure and buildings involving the operation of Township vehicles, small equipment and manual labor.Reporting Responsibility: The employee reports and receives work assignments from the Public Works Foreman as needed.
Essential Duties: Operate department vehicles and small equipment in a safe and productive manor.
Initially, must be able to proficiently operate at least (3) pieces of equipment.
Equipment includes small/single axle dump trucks, pick-up truck, zero turn mower, weed whacker and other hand tools & handheld equipment.
General Township property and road maintenance/repair including, but not limited to...road base repair, paving preparation, road paving, patching and crack sealing.
Assist in installation of stormwater systems
Assist in cleaning & repairing of stormwater inlets & pipes
Installation and repair of street signs and guiderails
Assist in roadside leaf and debris collection
Assist in removal of tree branches & brush overburden from and alongside of roadways
Assist in traffic control as needed
General cleaning and washing of trucks and equipment
General clean-up of garage and buildings, including kitchens & lavatory areas.
Assist with light carpentry work
Move heavy boxes or equipment & large bulky objects
Snow & ice removal
Plow roads and apply salt/cinders as instructed
Perform and /or assist in mowing program
Mow assigned areas such as long highways, open spaces, detention basins, right-of-way, etc.
Maintain mowing records
Participating in training courses/activities
To be available to respond to calls dispatched 24 hours per day
Maintain daily time log/report of work performed.
Perform duties as assigned by the Public Works Director and/or Public Works Foreman.
Skills: The employee must be able to drive selected Township trucks and Public Works equipment.
Physical Demands: The employee must be able to see, hear, walk, stand, squat, shovel, rake, move 100 lbs. from one location to another, climb stairs and ladders, climb in & out of ditches, etc. The employee works outside daily and is exposed to dirt, dust, noise, grease, oil, gasoline, diesel fuel, sewage, fumes, water, cold, heat, snow and rain. In addition, the employee must be able to drive selected Township trucks and operate the following equipment: zero turn mowers, chain saws, pumps, air compressors and other equipment which may be purchased by the Township. The employee must be able to use a level, ruler and other measuring equipment and basic hand tools.
Mental Demands: The employee must be able to read & write at a high school level, reason and solve problems. The employee interacts with residents frequently and is often in the public eye and must act accordingly.
Required Education and Experience: The employee should have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least 6 months' experience, in a construction or public works job entailing similar to those required for this position.
Required Licenses: Must possess a CDL class B license with air brake endorsement. Proof of a valid driver's license that must be presented to the Township Manager at 6 mon. intervals.
Salary/Compensation: $19.00 - $29.00 per hour
