POSITION SUMMARY
The LPN, under general supervision of the provider, RN, and medical administrator, will collaborate with
medical team to provide essential medical care to the inmates of the Spartanburg County Detention Facility.
The LPN will have extensive knowledge of a variety of illnesses and injuries as well as a compassionate and
hard-working attitude.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Complete intake health appraisals.
Perform vital sign checks.
Document health history.
Implement nursing interventions and tasks
Assist in the evaluation of responses to interventions
Administer injections, immunizations and medications.
Receive verbal/written orders from providers.
Conduct sick call with patients related to requests for medical attention.
Document patient contacts/encounters and update patient information in an electronic medical record.
Schedule specialty provider appointments as ordered by facility providers.
Assist with performing patient medical checks to identify needs or concerns.
Collect specimens for lab work.
Provide wound care.
Conduct blood sugar and blood pressure checks.
Attend emergency medical situations and assist patients until EMS arrives if necessary
Request and review medical records from outside providers.
Answer phone calls.
Assist family members, outside medical providers, other law enforcement agencies, etc. with
appropriate HIPAA compliant patient information.
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The ideal candidate should possess a thorough understanding of the principles, standards, practices,
and techniques of practical nursing.
Requires thorough knowledge of a variety of medical disciplines to include general medicine,
addiction medicine and mental health care.
Requires the ability to perform effectively in high-stress situations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This is non-sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires reaching, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
Possess current licensure accepted by the SC Board of Nursing.
Considerable experience in nursing or medical field.
Ability to pass a criminal background check.
Current BLS and/or ACLS certification.
LICENSE, CERTIFICATIONS, and OTHER REQUIREMENTS
All regular full-time and part-time employees of Spartanburg County are required by state law to
participate in the South Carolina Retirement System.
Possession of a valid driver's license issued in the state of South Carolina.
