- Lead Program Facilitator

Position Description
Reporting to the Senior Program Manager, the Lead Program Facilitator is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, welcoming, and structured learning environment for youth participants enrolled in the Illinois Youth Investment Program (IYIP). Facilitators support participants in developing social-emotional learning (SEL) and career readiness skills through engaging instruction, mentorship, and relationship-building.
The Lead Facilitator serves as a key point of communication between participants and program staff, ensuring consistent attendance tracking, participant engagement, classroom management, and timely reporting of participant concerns. This role requires professionalism, strong communication skills, and a commitment to equity, inclusion, and youth development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Facilitation
- Confidently facilitate SEL and career readiness activities using approved curriculum and program materials.
- Lead interactive discussions, reflection activities, role-plays, and experiential learning exercises.
- Support participant growth in: Self-awareness, Emotional regulation, Communication, Conflict resolution, Resume development, Interview preparation, Workplace readiness, financial literacy, etc.
Creating a Welcoming Environment
- Prepare learning space, seating arrangements, attendance materials, and instructional supplies.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful atmosphere.
- Greet participants by name and encourage engagement.
- Establish and reinforce group norms, confidentiality, and respectful behavior.
- Address disruptions calmly, consistently, and professionally.
Opening Circles & Community Building
- Facilitate or co-facilitate opening circles in collaboration with the Case Manager.
- Conduct check-ins, icebreakers, mindfulness activities, and agenda reviews.
- Encourage participation while maintaining a supportive environment.
Attendance & Documentation
- Ensure participants sign in daily using approved attendance procedures.
- Maintain accurate attendance records, including late arrivals and early departures.
- Submit attendance documentation according to program guidelines.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of participant records.
Participant Support & Reporting
- Observe and identify participant concerns, including Behavioral changes, Attendance issues, Peer conflict, Mental health or safety concerns
- Document concerns objectively and accurately using approved forms.
- Report concerns promptly with the Case Manager and Senior Program Manager.
- Escalate urgent safety concerns immediately.
Google Classroom Management
- Post assignments, materials, updates, and reminders in Google Classroom.
- Track participant completion and engagement.
- Maintain accurate records related to incentives and participation.
- Respond to participant’s questions and provide support as needed.
Professional Expectations
- Maintain punctuality, preparedness, and professionalism always.
- Demonstrate appropriate boundaries with participants.
- Communicate effectively and consistently with program staff.
- Promote equity, inclusion, and respect in all interactions.
- Serve as a positive role model for youth participants.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Experienced working with youth, young adults, or community-based programs.
- Knowledge of social-emotional learning and/or workforce development practices.
- Strong facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage groups in a supportive and structured manner.
- Comfortable using Google Classroom and basic digital tools.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations professionally.
Key Competencies
- Technology Skills- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Classroom; Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly;
- Detail/Accuracy- Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness; Monitor own work to ensure quality, organization and timely execution; Maintain strong attention to detail.
- Communication- Clearly and persuasively communicate, listen and seek clarifications; Participate in meetings, write clearly and informatively; Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication in all activities.
- Initiative/Teamwork- Demonstrate ability to work independently and as part of a team; Exhibit strong critical thinking skills and sound judgment, including prioritization and time management skills; Provide excellent level of support to multiple team members simultaneously within a multi-cultural, team-based-work environment. Project Management experience is a plus.

Work Schedule/Location- Full-time, 37.5 hours/5 days a week with periodic evening and Saturday work. This position works at 1132 S. Wabash Ave, in Chicago and 1010 Madison St. in Maywood. This position is predominately in-person with some remote work on days when not facilitating youth.
