Reporting to the Vice President of Nursing, the Director will oversee a 63-bed Emergency Department supported by approximately 165 FTEs. The Director will lead nursing operations, workforce management, quality improvement, financial performance, and clinical outcomes in partnership with nursing and physician leadership.
A key priority will be improving throughput and patient access in a capacity-constrained environment. The Director will also focus on staff engagement, workforce stability, and leadership development. Through visible leadership, open communication, and meaningful staff involvement in decision-making, this individual will foster a culture of trust, professional growth, and accountability while building a cohesive team aligned with Piedmont’s mission and values.
Strong physician partnership will be essential to success. Working closely with SEP Healthcare and the Emergency Department Medical Director, the Director will strengthen communication, support shared decision-making, and align nursing and physician leaders around departmental priorities and improved care delivery.
The department also serves a growing behavioral health population, with designated spaces within a multipurpose pod. The Director will support safe and coordinated care while helping to identify opportunities to strengthen practices as patient needs evolve. Existing safety resources include on-site security, weapons detection at public entrances, and strong partnerships with local law enforcement.
The ideal candidate will bring director-level emergency nursing experience, strong operational acumen, and a collaborative approach to change management. This leader will balance relationship-building with accountability, develop frontline leaders, and engage staff and physicians in creating a more effective, connected, and patient-centered emergency department.
