Description
The Village is accepting applications for a full-time Corporation Counsel. This position is appointed by and reports directly to the Board of Trustees. The Corporation Counsel represents the Village in legal matters and is the legal adviser to the Village Manager, Board of Trustees, as well as the Village staff. The Corporation Counsel represents the Village in court proceedings; aids in negotiating contracts and settlements of disputes; acts as a liaison for legal inquiries; and, drafts and reviews legislation, grants, contracts, and other documents. The Corporation Counsel oversees and works closely with contracted legal counsel related to litigation, labor and land-use and may supervise a Deputy Corporation Counsel.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work of the class is of a highly professional level
calling for the exercise of independent judgment. The Corporation Counsel is responsible for addressing many issues arising in the civil law affecting the operation of municipality business and organization.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES: Comprehensive knowledge of
the law as it pertains to municipalities in the State of New York; ability to deal with laws and legal
problems affecting local government administration and the legal problems and procedures involved in the operation of a municipal department; ability to institute court proceedings and to conduct comprehensive court actions in behalf of the municipality; ability to express clearly, by the written or spoken word, arguments of the law; sound professional judgment; initiative and resourcefulness; dependability; physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position.
