Chief People Officer (CPO)
Monadnock Community Hospital | Peterborough, New Hampshire
H&H Leadership Solutions has been retained by our newest client, Monadnock Community Hospital (MCH), an independent, not-for-profit community healthcare organization serving the Monadnock Region of southern New Hampshire, for an outstanding senior leadership position. Monadnock Community Hospital is seeking a strategic and collaborative Chief People Officer (CPO) to lead the organization’s Human Resources strategy and programs, including oversight of Employee Health Services (EHS). The CPO will serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Executive Team while overseeing talent acquisition & retention, employee relations, compensation and benefits (total rewards), HR policies, leadership & talent development, engagement, workforce planning, people strategy, and employee health services.
The successful candidate will build a culture of trust, accountability, inclusion, engagement, and workforce well-being while aligning people strategies and Employee Health Services with MCH’s mission, vision, values, and long-term organizational goals.
CPO Candidates Must Possess: The ideal candidate will bring comprehensive healthcare Human Resources leadership experience and the ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on execution. MCH seeks an influential, approachable leader who can transform, modernize, and elevate the HR function, provide strategic oversight of Employee Health Services, strengthen workforce engagement and culture, and guide the organization through transformational change.
Key Qualifications & Competencies
- Demonstrated success developing and executing an enterprise-wide Human Resources strategy aligned with organizational priorities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of employee relations, employment law and regulations, compensation, benefits, recruitment, retention, performance management, and leadership development.
- Experience providing strategic and operational oversight of Employee Health Services in a healthcare environment, including collaboration with clinical, operational, infection prevention, and safety leaders.
- Proven ability to develop creative talent acquisition and retention strategies for clinical and support staff in a challenging healthcare environment.
- Experience building a culture of accountability, trust, inclusion, continuous learning, and high performance.
- Ability to assess organizational culture and translate findings into meaningful engagement and improvement initiatives.
- Experience leading enterprise-wide change management and guiding leaders and employees through organizational transitions.
- Strong business-partnering experience as an advisor, counselor, and confidant to CEO, executive team, directors, and managers.
- Demonstrated ability to use HR metrics, workforce data, and Employee Health Services trends to support organizational decision-making.
- Experience advancing HR technology, automation, and processes to improve efficiency, impact, and employee experience.
- High emotional intelligence with exceptional communication, relationship-building, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to develop and sustain strong internal and community relationships.
- Demonstrated success building, coaching, and developing high-performing teams and leadership pipelines across organizations.
Reporting Relationship
The Chief People Officer reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and serves as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team.
Education
- Master’s degree in Human Resources Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related discipline required.
- SPHR and/or SHRM-SCP certification required, or successful completion of certification within two years of employment.
Experience
- At least five years of successful senior Human Resources leadership experience.
- At least ten years of broad Human Resources generalist experience across all major HR functions.
- Hospital or health system experience is essential.
- Experience with employment law and regulations, employee benefits, compensation analysis & administration, reward systems, talent acquisition, employee relations, labor law, organizational development, and oversight of employee wellness and health services.
- Experience utilizing technology to improve efficiency, organizational impact and customer experience across people and employee health services functions.
- Demonstrated success partnering with executive, operational, and clinical leaders to design and implement value-added Human Resources and Employee Health Services programs.
