Chief of Staff description:
The primary role of the Chief of Staff is to oversee the District office and the day-to-day responsibilities such as and not limited to personal management of staff, constituent services, outreach planning with the Outreach Director, community building/networking, and maintaining communications with neighboring offices in district. The chief of Staff will often attend events and communicate on the Senator’s behalf.
Other responsibilities will include the planning and execution of large projects/events that would be in Springfield or in District.
The chief of staff must be able to work with staff members in Springfield and have knowledge about legislation and the legislative process. Must be flexible to help out staff during sessions during the spring and fall months.
Requirements
- Must have prior or relevant experience in working in district offices
- Has experience in capital funding/budgeting
- Knowledge of the legislative process and the Senate District
- Detailed-oriented and effective at planning large scale projects
- Ability to be flexible with hours
- Multi-tasking multiple projects or day-to-day activities
- Knows how to effectively communicate with staffers on their responsibilities and goals
- Effective at communicating the goals of the office/Senator
- Maintain communication with the Springfield office and hold weekly meetings
