The University of Houston, a Carnegie R1 institution in Houston, Texas, invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for the position of assistant vice president for auxiliary services. This is an on-site leadership role.
Founded in 1927, the University of Houston is the largest public research university in Houston and one of the largest universities in Texas. The assistant vice president for auxiliary services (AVP) provides senior-level leadership for the University of Houston's (UH) Auxiliary Services enterprise, a complex, multimillion-dollar portfolio of customer-facing and revenue-generating operations that support student life, strengthen the campus experience, and contribute to the university's academic mission. Reporting to the senior associate vice chancellor and senior associate vice president for administration and serving as second-in-command within her operation, the assistant vice president is responsible for the strategic direction and day-to-day effectiveness of a portfolio that includes dining and catering, campus stores, event-related services, the operation of the Retail, Auxiliary, and Dining (RAD) Center, the Cougar Woods Dining Commons, the new $64 million dining commons (opening spring 2028), and other enterprises serving students and the broader campus community. The assistant vice president leads and develops a team of six managers and directors, including two direct reports, and administers an annual operating budget of approximately $15.9 million.
Salary Range: $160,000 - $190,000
QUALIFICATIONS
A master's degree in business administration, higher education administration, public administration, finance, hospitality management, organizational leadership, or a related field is required. Equivalent advanced education or formal training in a relevant area of specialization may also be considered. Candidates should possess a minimum of seven years of directly related professional experience in auxiliaries, hospitality, business, or another complex, customer-focused operation.
Preferred qualifications include expertise and demonstrated success in strategic planning, finance and budgeting, and contract management, as well as the ability to communicate complex financial, operational, and strategic information effectively to all levels of the university. Experience leading teams, managing organizational change, and overseeing relationships with external vendors, contractors, and service providers is highly preferred.
