Description
OverviewThe Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports to the Golf Course Superintendent and works under that position's direction to help manage and oversee all aspects of golf course maintenance as well as other landscaping facilities on the property. The role supports a fast-paced, hospitality-focused operation and includes assisting with department policies, work assignment delegation, agronomic practices, and operation of sprayers and spreaders.
Experience Required
- Able to communicate politely and professionally with guests, members, customers, and fellow staff members.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Enrolled in a degree in Golf Management or Agronomy, or 5 or more years related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5 years progressive experience as an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.
- Nevada Driver's License, current and valid.
- Nevada Pesticide Applicators License to be obtained within 6 months of employment.
- Good knowledge of agronomics and the application of fertilizers and chemicals, and operation of sprayers and spreaders.
- Knowledge of computer programs such as JONAS, EZLINK, KRONOS, Excel, Microsoft Word, and Outlook is a plus.
- Willingness to work flexible hours.
Essential Responsibilities
- Work under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent to help manage the golf maintenance budget.
- Assist in carrying out golf maintenance department policies.
- Assist in delegating work assignments and evaluating job performance in the golf course maintenance department.
- Assist in hiring, training, supervising, disciplining, and terminating employees within the department.
- Monitor operation of the golf maintenance department, including scheduling, agronomic concerns, employee safety, and equipment maintenance.
- Supervise the maintenance of the golf courses.
- Oversee completion of work assignments by staff and assist with field decisions, including performing actual labor when needed.
- Demonstrate tasks and assist on the golf course to ensure work is completed in a timely manner.
- Enforce safe working conditions and instruct staff on proper equipment use and work methods.
- Supervise special projects and labor crews as directed.
- Report golf course conditions and disciplinary problems to the Golf Course Superintendent or Director of Operations.
- Assist with staff scheduling and payroll processing for the department.
- Communicate verbally and through email with co-workers in golf maintenance and other departments.
- Coordinate equipment and maintenance issues with the appropriate equipment and/or facilities manager.
- Enforce company policies and procedures.
- Assist with department administration through proper procedures in accordance with corporate protocol and company policies.
- Provide professional advice, opinions, assistance, and services for the betterment of the golf course.
- Assist in developing written operating policies, preventative maintenance plans, fertilizer schedules, and overall course condition schedules.
- Help track who performs tasks and when.
- Help secure and protect golf facility assets, including facilities and equipment.
