Description
Position title: Assistant Director of Strategic Analytics
Position #: JR105234
Position #: JR105234
This position is available within the University of Maryland’s Division of Information Technology (DIT).
The Assistant Director of Strategic Analytics leads strategic analytics, assessment, reporting, and data-informed decision support for DIT’s academic technology, digital services, and related systems. The position helps DIT understand and improve service performance, technology adoption, cost, user experience, and the effectiveness of services supporting students, faculty, and staff.
The Assistant Director partners with DIT leaders, service owners, technical teams, and campus stakeholders to identify high-value questions and translate them into meaningful metrics, dashboards, reports, surveys, assessments, and actionable recommendations. The role leads the development of sustainable reporting and analytic practices, including operational dashboards, data pipelines, key performance indicators, and recurring decision-support products. The incumbent synthesizes information from system data, service data, surveys, and qualitative feedback to communicate findings clearly to audiences ranging from technical staff to senior University leadership.
The position directs surveys, assessment, and user-experience research related to technology services and digital learning environments. It works with service owners to define and document service measures; evaluates trends in adoption, service quality, and user experience; and supports evidence-based planning, service improvement, and resource decisions. The Assistant Director also responds to emerging leadership needs through focused analysis and develops reusable analytic tools that reduce reliance on manual and ad hoc reporting.
The Assistant Director supervises members of the Academic Technology Experience team and is responsible for staff hiring, onboarding, goal setting, performance management, workload prioritization, and professional development. The position provides direction for staff engaged in analytics, reporting, data engineering, survey research, assessment, and related work, ensuring that team priorities align with DIT strategy and that deliverables are reliable, well documented, accessible, and sustainable.
The position will also develop a service strategy to offer scalable approaches for providing analytics and assessment support to other University units. Work may include consulting, creating, and/or maintaining appropriately governed datasets, supporting research and evaluation activities, and contributing to presentations, publications, and grant initiatives.
Lastly, the successful candidate will cultivate faculty and campus partnerships involving learning technologies, digital learning environments, and DIT-supported services. The incumbent works in alignment with University requirements and practices related to data governance, privacy, security, accessibility, and responsible use of institutional data. The successful candidate will bring strong analytical judgment, communication skills, and the ability to turn complex information into practical recommendations for diverse stakeholders.
