Aerospace welders must perform welding operations on aircraft, aircraft components and aircraft engine parts
DUTIES
Perform fusion welding on aircraft and ground SE to a qualified Welding Procedure Specification (WPS)
Perform structural fusion welding on aerospace parts and components per the requirements of specifications as prescribed by Engineering Drawings and Work Orders
Fabricate manufacture-welded parts from engineering drawings without direct supervision
Perform fusion welding and torch brazing for ground SE, ensuring the procedure is completed per the requirements of the national welding and brazing codes
Weld a wide variety of material such as aluminum, magnesium, alloyed and low alloy steel, stainless steel and nickel alloy steels
The candidate shall maintain welding certification/recertification as required and the skill and knowledge to perform one-time weld repairs which are not effected on a production line basis and which require the application of independent thinking as to arc stability, penetration, viscosity of flux. The welds must be flight critical
The candidate shall be able to predetermine the heat range (amp range), intensity of high frequency, type of current, electrode size, shield cups, grounding method, arc stability, degree of penetration, surface tension and viscosity of the flux and shielding slag (argon gas shield), preheat and post-heat temperature of the metals being welded and time element
Design and fabricate weld holding fixtures as necessary to perform individual welding projects
Perform duties as a Qualified Weld Inspector by inspecting own welds and those of less qualified welders
Other Duties as assigned
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High School diploma or equivalent.
Prefer experience from military fixed wing community (F/A-18, P-3, T-44, H-60) or civilian heavy structure background
Must have welding license and will be required to perform welding competency test plates
Must be able to read and understanding engineering drawings and welding symbols
Must be certified on various metals and procedures/techniques prior to employment in accordance with SAE-AMS-STD-1595 Qualifications of Aircraft, Missile and Aerospace Fusion Welders
Must be able to verify this certification and shall provide verification of certification upon request of the employer
Intense, close tolerance welding operational experience with aluminums of .0001 thicknesses a must
Must have knowledge of the materials to select the correct filler materials and shielding gas when generating the WPS
The candidate must have experience, with MIG and TIG welding procedures
Must be a US Citizen
Must be able to pass a NACI background check. The NACI will include pulling a full credit check.

May be required to lift up to 50 pounds and carry for short distances.
May be required to read dials/gauges, identify small objects and hand tools.
Must be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings and other small scales.
Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth.
May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, fork lift, APU, etc.
