Endowed Professorship and Tufts Epsilon Materials Institute Director
Endowed Professorship and Tufts Epsilon Materials Institute Director
Description
The School of Engineering at Tufts University invites applications for the endowed Epsilon Energy Materials Innovation Professorship and inaugural Director of the Tufts Epsilon Materials Institute (TEMI) faculty position. TEMI is a recently-established collaborative partnership between Tufts University and Epsilon Group, an industrial leader in advanced carbon materials for batteries and other applications. TEMI seeks to address global challenges in energy and sustainability through breakthrough materials research. Applicants will be considered at the full Professor rank but exceptional candidates at the Associate Professor rank are also encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is expected to maintain an impactful, highly visible research program, provide visionary leadership for TEMI, oversee the growth of TEMI including additional tenure track hires to be made in the next 2-3 years, and demonstrate excellence in teaching and student mentorship.
We invite applicants with internationally recognized experimental and/or computational research expertise in advanced materials for energy applications, and who have a passion for sustainability, materials circularity, and the translation of innovative discoveries towards commercialization. We seek individuals who embrace opportunities to work collaboratively within their home department as well as across the School of Engineering (SOE) and the University. Additional information about our research expertise and priorities is available on the webpages of the SOE and the Office of the Vice Provost for Research.
This search is being conducted in parallel with another SOE search for the Director of the Tufts Institute for Artificial Intelligence (TIAI). Candidates for the Director of TEMI will be expected to work collaboratively across SOE and support research synergies between both institutes, appropriate to the discovery and development of novel materials via computational approaches.
Tufts' SOE distinguishes itself by the interdisciplinary focus and integrative nature of its engineering education and research programs, within the environment of both a "Research I" university and a top-ranked undergraduate institution. Home to nine graduate and professional schools across four campuses, Tufts prides on its culture of cross-school partnerships. The Medford/Somerville campus is located only six miles from historic downtown Boston, facilitating extensive opportunities for academic and industrial collaborations, as well as participation in the rich intellectual life of the region.
Candidates should possess an earned doctorate in materials science and engineering or a closely related discipline, and be eligible for tenure in one of the six SOE departments. Candidates should apply online at https://apply.interfolio.com/175391 by submitting a curriculum vitae, a statement of research, a statement of leadership experience, and a statement of teaching interests including advising and mentoring philosophies, along with contact information for three references. For full consideration, applications should be received by December 15, 2025. Application review will proceed on a rolling basis and continue until the position is filled. The anticipated start date is September 2026. To view the full posting, including salary ranges and university non-discrimination policy, visit https://apply.interfolio.com/175391.
