WGAL TV, the Hearst-owned NBC affiliate in the Harrisburg-Lancaster-Lebanon-York, PA market, is looking for an Executive Producer who can oversee fast-paced morning newscasts in a rapidly growing news market.
The ideal candidate is a driven, organized newsroom leader who can shape a clear vision, develop compelling multiplatform content, and coach producers, reporters, anchors, and photojournalists. This role oversees the overall look and feel of assigned newscasts, breaking news coverage, social engagement, and both immediate and long-term editorial planning.
Candidates should have a strong producing background, sound editorial judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to make ethical decisions under deadline pressure. The Executive Producer will also help recruit producers and partner closely with the News Director to implement strategies that strengthen the morning newscast across broadcast, digital, and social platforms.
Job Responsibilities
Work with newsroom managers and colleagues to craft and carry out successful news strategies rooted in research and experience
Oversight of the preparation of a rundown and scripts for morning newscasts
Oversight of the use of all our graphics resources to enhance our presentation
Coaching producers, reporters, photojournalists, and assignment editors
Responding to breaking news
Oversight of digital response to breaking news and social media engagement
Writing compelling news stories in active voice
Meeting deadlines
News gathering
Boothing and producing newscasts when needed
Posting stories and videos on all web platforms (website, social media, etc)
Must perform administrative duties including scheduling, performance reviews, training and providing critical feedback.
Communicating effectively with news staff, promotions, and production/engineering
In-person attendance is required
Requirements:
Minimum three years of producing experience.
Should have demonstrated experience in writing and be able to think visually.
Have a strong sense of audience desires
Possess outstanding communication skills.
Ability to multi-task and coordinate several crews and responsibilities simultaneously.
An ability to summarize information into easy-to-understand components
Creative presentation style, and ability to showcase all resources and elements
Unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards
Related experience and/or training considered as well as a combination of education and experience.
