We are seeking an Instructional Designer II to manage and lead the development and revision of new and existing educational content for the water sector, providing instructional design backed by adult learning theory to create high quality educational products.
This is not a 100% remote job. AWWA runs on a hybrid reporting schedule with at least 3 days in the Denver office and 2 days of remote reporting.
Essential Job Functions
Design and develop educational curriculum and instruction for in-person and remote delivery
Work closely with cross-functional teams, internal and external, to ensure timely and successful creation of high quality educational products
Manage multiple concurrent educational projects from project initiation through final publication/posting, including scheduling, project tracking and serving as liaison and facilitator between volunteers, technical staff, contractors and production staff
Develop and submit monthly status reports, as required
Lead conference calls with volunteers/contractors to guide them in the educational development processes, work with them on instructional design components and motivate volunteers to meet deadlines for product development
Create engaging and effective learning experiences that align with educational standards and objectives
Create educational content using AWWA resources including , but not limited to, subject matter experts, technical reports and manuals of water supply practice
Apply instructional strategies to virtual and in-person training materials to enhance audience engagement, retention and knowledge transfer
Evaluate course content to align objectives, activities and assessments for desired outcomes
Maintain curricula library including content catalogs
Analyze, review and recommend process improvements
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Requirements
Education, Certification or Formal Training:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, or other related area required.
Work Experience:
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in training or adult education design required
Demonstrated understanding of adult learning techniques required
Project management experience required
Minimum of two (2) years of water sector related experience strongly preferred
Demonstrated experience leading and/or facilitating discussions with technical experts required
Demonstrated understanding of technical and scientific terminology required
Association experience preferred
Intermediate computer skills and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook required; knowledge of electronic filing sharing platforms (e.g. SharePoint or Microsoft Teams preferre

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities in an evolving work environment with shifting time frames
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with an acute ability to listen attentively and to communicate effectively throughout all levels of the organization and/or with external customers, clients, members
Demonstrated proficiency in consultative skills when addressing inquiries
Willingness and desire to collaborate to foster a positive, fulfilling work environment
Demonstrated strengths in organizational, attention-to-detail, follow-through, analytical, reasoning, critical thinking, project management, and problem-solving skills
Compensation/Benefits Pay is dependent upon qualifications; Pay range is targeted between $74,881 - $90,000 per year and is paired with a comprehensive benefits package that includes:
