- Vice President of Nursing Professional Practice & Clinical Excellence
Description
The Vice President of Nursing Professional Practice & Clinical Excellence serves as the enterprise executive leader responsible for nursing professional practice governance, evidence based practice, nursing research, shared governance, competency and scope oversight for licensed and unlicensed nursing roles, clinical education strategy, patient education alignment, and academic partnerships across HonorHealth. This role operationalizes the Chief Nursing Executive’s professional practice vision across all acute, ambulatory, and service line environments. The Vice President ensures consistency, quality, and excellence in nursing practice; leads enterprise level operations related to professional practice, education, research, and governance; and holds accountability for associated budgets, resources, and outcomes in support of Magnet alignment, workforce development, and future nursing architecture.
Enterprise Professional Practice Leadership:
- Leads and governs the HonorHealth enterprise nursing professional practice model
- Establishes and maintains system wide nursing practice standards, guidelines, and clinical policies
- Oversees all nursing professional practice councils and policy governance structures
- Partners with Quality leadership on development and execution of the Nursing Quality Plan
- Ensures consistency of nursing practice across all campuses and service lines
- Holds operational accountability for enterprise professional practice functions within scope
- Oversees the nursing strategic planning process with engagement from direct care nurses, nursing leaders, academic partners, and organizational leadership.
Shared Governance, Competency & Scope:
- Leads and matures the HonorHealth Shared Governance model aligned to national exemplary
- Oversees enterprise competency frameworks for licensed and unlicensed nursing roles
- Owns RN and UAP (Unlicensed Assistive Personnel) scope of practice governance and related operational processes
- Partners with CNOs and ACNOs to ensure effective implementation of enterprise standards at the site level
- Allocates resources and manages budgets related to competency, scope, and governance functions
Clinical Education & Workforce Development:
- Oversees enterprise clinical education operations including RN residency, fellowships, transition to practice programs, and simulation
- Ensures education programs are operationally aligned with enterprise practice and competency standards
- Manages associated budgets and resources to support education quality and scale
- Partners with Workforce Development and HR on clinical career pathways and pipeline sustainability
Research, Innovation & Academic Partnerships:
- Leads the enterprise nursing research and evidence based practice strategy
- Oversees operational infrastructure supporting nursing inquiry, dissemination, and academic collaboration
- Manages academic partnerships, workforce pipelines, and student placement operations
- Aligns nursing research initiatives with the Research Institute and Magnet priorities
- Maintains fiscal accountability for research related nursing initiatives within scope
Patient Education Leadership:
- Oversees the enterprise patient education framework and related operational functions
- Ensures consistent, evidence based patient education content across the system
- Partners with Marketing and Clinical Practice leaders to operationalize patient education strategies
- Manages resources and budgets supporting patient education initiatives
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Nursing – required, Doctorate (DNP or PhD) - preferred
- 10+ years of progressive nursing executive leadership experience
- Demonstrated experience operating at the system or enterprise executive level
- Proven success leading and operating enterprise level professional practice, education, research, or governance functions
- Experience with budget ownership and operational accountability
