- State Fire Inspector Northeast Wyoming
Description
Our Fire and Life Safety Inspectors perform construction inspections, fire code maintenance inspections, and some plan review. We adopt the latest ICC codes. ICC Fire Inspector certifications required within the first months of employment. The inspector is assigned a vehicle and electronic devices as a workplace. Most inspections are conducted at the building site, most department meetings are online, and most administrative work is done from the vehicle.
Successful candidate may reside in the Northeast area of Wyoming, which could include but not limited to the following counties: Campbell, Crook, Johnson, Sheridan, and Weston.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.
Performs fire and building inspections in institutional, commercial, and industrial occupancies, including related inspection reports and documentation.
Ensures that companies comply with agency rules, agency orders, and permit stipulations through field inspections.
Provides technical assistance to public and private interests regarding regulations and practices.
Responds to complaints and mediates disputes.
Writes non-compliance letters, prepares reports and hearing exhibits, and provides testimony at hearings.
Interacts with other state and federal agency officials and law enforcement personnel.
Helps develop and review new regulations.
Analyzes, examines and evaluates documents to determine compliance with adopted codes.
Witness tests and operations.
Examines, analyzes, and evaluates building construction plans to be utilized by the public, noting safety factors and making conclusions and recommendations.
Provides education and enforces compliance.
Conducts inspections pursuant to the issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy.
Requirements
PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:
Preference may be given to applicants with certification as a fire prevention/fire safety inspector or building inspector through the International Code Council (ICC).
**Agency requires that the applicant be certified as a fire inspector (Fire Inspector I & Fire Inspector II) with the International Code Council (ICC) within one year from the date of hire.
Successful candidate may reside in the Northeast area of Wyoming, which could include but not limited to the following counties: Crook, Johnson, Sheridan, and Weston.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws.
Knowledge of agency policies and procedures.
Knowledge of methods and techniques of inspections.
Knowledge of office procedures, practices, and equipment.
Knowledge of modern and complex techniques and practices of building construction.
Knowledge of basic engineering.
Knowledge of federal and state codes and regulations, including building, mechanical, and fire codes.
Skill in the use of computers.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in interpersonal relations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Experience:
0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Inspection)
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Inspection)
