PAYETTE is a leading architectural design firm in Boston focused on the design of complex, high technology buildings for scientific and medical research, academic teaching and healthcare.
PAYETTE is currently seeking an experienced Senior Accounting Manager to join our team and help oversee our financial operations.
The Senior Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing the accounting department, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with accounting standards and regulations. Working in collaboration with the Director of Finance and the Director of People, Culture & Studio Operations, this role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership and communication skills as well as a deep understanding of accounting principles, particularly within the architectural or design industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting and Compliance:
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, and forecasts to provide insights into the firm’s financial performance.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as adherence to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Review and file all corporate tax returns, including Irish VAT Tax Return and State/City Use Tax Returns for New York, Mississippi, and Philadelphia.
- Conduct year-end tax planning and prepare documentation for stock purchases or sales.
- Run year-end reviews for outside auditors and develop necessary analyses.
- Insurance and Regulatory Management:
- Manage insurance programs, including Business Auto, Cyber Coverage, Employment Practice Liability Coverage and Professional Liability Coverage.
- Complete multiple annual government surveys.
- Prepare state annual reports and manage firm license renewals.
- Oversee SAM annual renewal.
- Accounting Operations and Team Management:
- Oversee all aspects of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions.
- Review all general ledger activities daily and prepare month-end financial statements, including income statements and accounts receivable reports.
- Conduct month-end close activities, including reviewing project costs and adjusting for revenue recognition.
- Manage the Project Accountant and oversee daily transactions on the Citizens Bank website.
- Project Financial Management and Analysis:
- Collaborate with project managers and other departments to provide financial insights and support for project budgeting and forecasting.
- Meet with Principals and/or Project Managers for financial reviews of projects.
- Create architectural contingencies spreadsheets for active projects for OER meetings.
- Update cash projections and high-level cash spreadsheets based on financial results.
- In collaboration with the Director of Finance, process accounting information for project financials and manage client payments and company deposits.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial role. Work experience in the architectural or design industry is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of accounting software and ERP systems; proficiency in Deltek Vantagepoint and Excel.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization and manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Compensation: $130k - $150k
