Position: Park/Ballfield Maintenance - Seasonal
Rate: $19.00/hour
Application Deadline: 2/27/2026
Estimated Start Date: Early March
Under the close supervision of the Park Supervisor and/or Field Foreman, this position is responsible for performing ball field and general maintenance duties at assigned District parks and other grounds. The job may require shifts ranging from morning to evening hours, weekends and holidays. Typically the days will be Wednesday - Sunday.
Job Duties:
- Prepare the fields which will include raking and dragging the infield, chalking the field according to specified dimensions, watering infield, and setting bases.
- Field Maintenance will include filling infield holes; adding clay to infield when necessary; ensuring proper grading of infields; and inspecting the ball fields for proper safety including securing fences.
- Communicate issues surrounding proper field care.
- Mow and edge lawns; trim, weed and prune landscaped areas; prepare and fertilize soil; plant lawns, trees, shrubs, hedges and flowers.
- Hoe weeds and rake lawns; water various grounds areas by hand and operate sprinkler systems as assigned.
- Collect trash and perform general grounds cleaning (restroom, picnic shelters, tennis/volleyball courts, etc.).
- Operate riding and push mowers, edgers, weed eaters, blower, rakes, brooms, shovels, hose, chain saws, and other grounds maintenance tools and equipment.
- Clean and perform routine maintenance on grounds maintenance equipment and tools.
- Install, operate, maintain and repair sprinkler/drainage systems as assigned.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings, and orientations.
- Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
- Correct or inform supervisor of any hazards; communicate issues/complaints to supervisor as needed.
- Assist other departments with District events as needed.
- Attend work on a regular, reliable and punctual basis.
MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Operation and care of assigned tools, equipment and machinery, including trucks, tractors and other motorized equipment as necessary. Must have some knowledge of the proper use and preventive maintenance procedures of automotive and power equipment used in irrigated and non-irrigated park settings.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
90% or more of the work is performed outdoors. May be exposed to extreme cold, heat, wet, snow, humid or icy conditions. Frequent exposure to noise, fumes, dusts, mists, gases, grasses, molds, fertilizers, solvents, oils, and greases.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The daily routine requires the ability to bend, stoop, reach, lift, kneel, carry, grasp, push and pull equipment, supplies and materials. Must be able to frequently sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and lift, exhibit manual dexterity and the ability to handle objects. Must be able to push, pull and balance. Vision requirements include: near acuity, far acuity, depth perception and color vision. Requires sense of smell and feeling. Must be able to read, comprehend, write, and possess basic math skills in order to record fuel, oil usage, time sheet computations, and other tasks. Upper body strength is a requisite to lift / move a maximum of 80 pounds unassisted; and lift / move a maximum of 125 pounds with assistance.
Requirements
EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIRED:
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- Minimum (1) year experience with working knowledge of field preparation and maintenance
- Basic knowledge of turf maintenance and equipment.
- Requires the ability to work under minimal supervision and assume responsibility for task initiation and completion.
- Complete assigned tasks accurately and efficiently.
