Description
Essential Job Functions
Instructional Responsibilities
- Teach art concepts at a developmentally appropriate level for students in Early Childhood through 4th grade.
- Prepare and deliver engaging lessons in accordance with the visual art curriculum guide and student learning objectives.
Instruct students in various media and techniques, including drawing, coloring, painting, design, ceramics, and soft materials. - Introduce and teach art history as outlined in the curriculum.
- Co-teach art and design-integrated classes with the STEM teacher for Early Childhood–2nd grade.
Classroom & Program Management
- Set up and maintain a classroom environment with resources necessary for effective instruction.
- Monitor classroom inventory, maintain materials, and order art supplies as needed.
- Provide an effective and safe learning environment by adhering to school guidelines for structure, routines, and classroom management.
- Prepare, organize, and implement a visual art showcase for parents of 3rd/4th grade students every six weeks.
School-Wide Contributions
- Support the Specials team in organizing and running major school productions, including the Winter Parade and the Lower School Spectacular.
- Promote and uphold the mission of Shelton School by fostering a positive sense of community.
Professional Collaboration & Communication
- Work cohesively with colleagues, including Specials team members and classroom teachers, as outlined in the staff handbook.
- Attend faculty and department meetings as required.
- Communicate effectively, calmly, and professionally with students, families, and colleagues.
Professional Growth & Duties
- Fulfill all professional responsibilities and duties as assigned and/or outlined in the staff handbook.
- Participate in required professional development by attending in-service programs or other training that positively impacts student learning.
Requirements
- 3+ years of elementary education teaching experience desired
- Bachelor’s Degree in Art or Education with an emphasis in Art required.
- Master’s Degree, Montessori training, and/or Language Therapy training preferred.
- Desire and positive enthusiasm to work with Lower School students
- Experience working with students with learning differences preferred
- Proficiency in educational technology
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues
