Open Position: Lead Pastor
Overview: The Lead Pastor of Restoration Life Church (“RestLife”) is the primary spiritual leader, teacher, and shepherd for the congregation and staff. His priority work includes strategic planning, teaching, mentoring staff, development of lay leaders and ensuring the overall spiritual health and welfare of the church. He bears the responsibility before God as the shepherd of the congregation, guiding our church in its mission which is currently to go into the community, show them God is alive, and grow them into disciples. The ideal candidate is a relational and strategic leader with a strong pastoral heart who can connect personally with the church body and the surrounding community. The role currently oversees one full-time associate pastor, one part-time bookkeeper, and a team of volunteer ministry leaders, and serves as a permanent member of the five-person Elder Board.
Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Elder Board.
Primary Responsibilities:
Character and Personal Development
Have a deep understanding of who God made you to be; he must know his own strengths and weaknesses in fulfilling this role, and have humility and wisdom to seek and accept assistance in both areas.
Must be a lifelong learner, intentionally and continually seeking out opportunities to improve his pastoring skills.
Conduct himself in a manner that aligns with the bylaws, mission, and values of Restoration Life Church.
Vision and Mission
Cast and implement a compelling, Biblically-rooted mission and vision for the church, and motivate the church body to fulfill this mission through your words and conduct.
Build a five-year plan with annual reassessment for the church in seeking to fulfill its vision and mission, and provide insights and an evaluation of the effectiveness of the mission to the staff and Elder Board.
Preach and Teach
Preach and teach the whole counsel of God through Scripture exposition with Biblical accuracy, sound doctrine, clarity, and practical application.
Serve as the primary preacher in corporate worship (Approximately 44 weeks per year), ensuring that Sunday morning services are conducted with order and purpose.
Teach and disciple through other settings, such as classes, retreats, small groups, and leadership development.
Oversight and Leadership
Provide guidance, leadership development and spiritual growth for staff and volunteer leaders; and equip, mentor, and empower ministry teams to serve effectively.
Lead with humility and integrity, modeling transparency in life and leadership, and communicating consistently with staff, the Elder Board, and the congregation.
Nurture and equip the congregation and its leaders in ministry and discipleship.
Ensure the overall health and well-being of each ministry within the church.
Recruit, develop and maintain Biblically-qualified men to serve on the Elder Board, and deacons to serve as ministry team leaders.
Administration and Governance
Work with staff and the Elder Board to set goals, budgets, and policies to appropriately govern the church’s resources.
Work with ministry leaders to develop clear and reasonable ministry goals, accountability structures, and evaluation processes.
Work with the Elder Board to ensure effective facility management, transparent two-way communication between the congregation and its leaders, and stewardship of church resources.
Hire, supervise, and evaluate staff.
General Pastoral Responsibilities
Intercede for the congregation and its leaders, worship, discipleship, unity, ministry, and mission; actively seeking God’s direction in identifying and supporting those who need prayer.
Administer the church membership process, the ordinances (baptisms, communion), and ceremonies (child dedications, weddings, and funerals) for church members and prospects.
The Lead Pastor will actively seek to know the needs of the congregational body and will provide counseling for members and attendees of the church when appropriate.
Actively rely on the Holy Spirit’s power for the fulfillment of Christ’s purposes for his church
Compensation: Base Salary/Housing Allowance range is $75-$90k, negotiated based on experience; Health Insurance (medical/dental/vision); 403(b) Plan Contributions; Four (4) weeks of PTO; Sabbatical Leave; CE funds; Budgeted reimbursement for ministry expenses. Generally, all is negotiable.
About RestLife: Restoration Life Church (“RestLife”) is an independent Bible-centered congregation near Sacramento’s downtown core. We have a broadly diverse congregation. The church was launched 20 years ago and currently has 130 active members of all ages, with another 70 less-involved members. We acquired our first permanent home in 2022, and have been energetically updating the buildings and property to meet the church’s needs and to support outreach in the community. The congregation gathers for weekly Sunday morning services and has strong men’s and women’s ministries, a variety of small groups, adult education classes, active youth and children’s ministries, monthly mid-week fellowship and worship events, and community outreach events. As an expression of the church’s passion for community outreach, a preschool and another local congregation are active on the property as well.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Vibrant faith in Jesus Christ.
Meets the Biblical qualifications to be an Elder.
Extensive experience in pastoral or similar ministry.
Advanced degree in Theology (or equivalent) preferred.
Relationship driven, with a sincere love of people.
Strong preaching, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
Fiscally conservative and responsible.
Collaborative servant-leader.
Transparent in life and leadership.
Godly character with humility, emotional intelligence, a sincere love of people.
Heart for community outreach and evangelism.
