Description
Position Overview:We are seeking a talented individual to join our Health & Benefits team at Mercer. This role will be based in Seattle, WA. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.
Specifically we are seeking a detail-oriented renewals and benefits specialist to manage and support the annual renewal cycle of health care plans. Key tasks include conducting benefit plan evaluations, ensuring compliance operations, and providing training and development within the team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with multiple carrier teams, managing complex benefit plans, delivering high-quality reports and thorough documentation to support client needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Renewals Management:
- Engage and collaborate with multiple carrier teams across medical, dental, pharmacy, vision, and health savings plans to renew a large portfolio of health care plans
- Lead weekly renewal status meetings with key stakeholders, including clients and third-party administrators.
- Analyze annual out-of-pocket maximums for all non-grandfathered plans to ensure alignment with current ACA and CMS statutory limits.
- Document plan-by-plan decisions and ensure all changes are accurately entered.
- Manage retroactive plan design changes and negotiate corrective actions with carriers to resolve benefit discrepancies.
- Facilitate the production, testing, and quality control of key deliverables including:
- Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA) reports
- Carrier-proposed changes and benefit deviation reports, including benefit negotiations
- Health Plans and Comparison Charts (HPCCs), ensuring error-free and timely delivery
- Summary of Benefits and Coverage (SBC) documents compliant with ACA mandates
- Comprehensive Plan Design and Summary Reports
- Creditable Coverage reports for actuarial evaluations
Plan Evaluations:
- Identify and evaluate opportunities for benefit plan improvements and cost-saving actions.
- Conduct in-depth analyses of benefit changes, including network access and disruption.
- Analyze benefit "takeaways" resulting from plan terminations and transitions, providing strategic insights.
- Assist in developing materials and strategies for Request for Proposal (RFP) processes related to identified changes.
Compliance Operations:
- Support class action settlement claims by ensuring proper fund allocation and accounting.
- Manage complex data collection and verification processes for settlements requiring extensive historical prescription and medical data.
- Provide training and support on class action lawsuit processes to team members.
EOC and Contract Review:
- Lead and support the annual review of plan documents, including EOCs, Summary of Benefits, and contracts.
- Collaborate with carriers and internal teams to oversee necessary changes and ensure quality and compliance of deliverables.
Training and Development:
- Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to renewal team members and new hires.
- Support onboarding and one-on-one training for interns and new staff to foster professional growth and knowledge transfer.
Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree
- Active life and health license
- Proven experience in benefits renewals, plan evaluations, and compliance within a large corporate or consulting environment.
- Strong knowledge of ACA regulations, Medicare Part D, and health plan design.
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Exceptional communication and negotiation skills to work effectively with carriers, clients, and internal teams.
- Proficiency with benefits administration systems and data analysis tools.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and quality in deliverables.
- Ability to lead meetings, facilitate discussions, and present complex information clearly.

Marsh is committed to hybrid work, which includes the flexibility of working remotely and the collaboration, connections and professional development benefits of working together in the office. All Marsh colleagues are expected to be in their local office or working onsite with clients at least three days per week. Office-based teams will identify at least one "anchor day" per week on which their full team will be together in person.
The applicable base salary range for this role is $88,000 to $176,000.
The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
