- Location: Remote with 75% travel
- Salary: $193,037 - $260,600 per year
- Eligible for an annual bonus incentive
As the Head of Nursing Informatics and Technology (CNIO), you will serve as Ascension’s senior executive leader at the intersection of Nursing practice, Nursing Experience, and the many forms of technology and data to advance Ascension’s core objectives. You will define and drive enterprise Nursing Technology strategy—ensuring that digital platforms, analytics, AI capabilities, and emerging technologies amplify the expertise of nurses while strengthening quality, safety, operational performance, and workforce sustainability.
You will lead the transformation of nursing workflows through intelligent system design, advanced analytics, AI-enabled decision support, and real-time clinical intelligence. Your mandate is to reduce cognitive burden, elevate clinical judgment, and redesign work in ways that restore time, presence, and professional agency to nurses at the point of care.
Partnering closely with Nursing, IT, Digital, Data, and Product leaders, you will deliver scalable, technology-enabled solutions across the enterprise—overseeing enterprise nursing technology roadmaps, performance dashboards, governance of AI within nursing domains, and measurable impact on care quality, workforce experience, and operational excellence.
In this role, you will ensure that technology and data are not layered onto nursing practice—but intentionally shaped to advance Nursing Experience and drive Ascension’s strategic priorities.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate delivery of technology solutions that proactively meet the needs of ministries while influencing an overall national technology strategy that is cost effective, create a strategic advantage and leverage or create best practices across the organization.
- Understand and influence ministry market strategies that enable the proper application of Ascension Technologies standards while working with the product organization to influence new innovative product offerings.
- Create and improve key performance metrics for each ministry that demonstrates constant value and improvement.
Evaluate program performance against expectations and influence changes to programs to improve competitive position, optimize platform performance and capabilities. - Monitor customer satisfaction with product line capabilities and service and initiate improvements/corrective actions to ensure solution deliverables and customer expectations are met/exceeded.
- Collaborate with product strategy and business management functions to develop value propositions for high value transformational opportunities.
Conduct hiring, training, directing, development and evaluation of staff.
Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Master's degree preferred.
Work Experience:
- 7 years of experience required.
- 10 years of experience preferred.
- 5 years of leadership or management experience preferred.
Additional Preferences:
- Master’s degree in Nursing, Informatics, Data Science, or a related field
- 7+ years of experience in Nursing, Clinical Informatics, Digital Health, or related fields
- 3+ years of progressive leadership experience
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Demonstrated experience with healthcare IT and digital platforms, including EHRs, clinical decision support, AI-enabled tools, interoperability, and large-scale system standardization
- Strong understanding of clinical workflows across inpatient, ambulatory, and virtual care settings.
- Professional informatics certification preferred (e.g., ANCC Nursing Informatics Certification).
- Exceptional communication, executive presence, and influence skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clinical value.
- Proven ability to build strong cross-functional relationships and lead through collaboration.
- High capacity to lead continuous change, innovation, and transformation in a complex healthcare environment.
