Description
OverviewHome of the Vermont Open for over 50 years, the full 18 holes have been in operation since 1929 with a redesign in 1989 to its current layout. Lake Morey Country Club is a par 70, 6024-yard course featuring sand traps, water hazards and well-guarded greens, demanding accuracy with a fairly flat front nine giving way to a mountainous back nine with stellar views. Fresh air, scenic vistas, and unspoiled Green Mountain beauty. LMCC hosts over 200 members, 120+ annual stay and play golf groups, the Vermont Open Championship, Junior Golf Clinics, weekly leagues, a dozen annual tournaments and the Lake Morey Summer Concert Series.
The Head Golf Professional has the responsibility for management of golf-related activities and top-quality individual and group instruction resulting in an exceptional overall golf experience for Lake Morey Resort Country Club members and guests, while working cooperatively with other departments.
Experience Required
- Maintain PGA of America Class "A" membership in good standing and uphold the PGA Code of Ethics.
- Demonstrated a path of continued professional growth over their career, with a minimum of five years of experience as an Assistant Golf Professional at a quality, recognized golf club, with supervisory experience.
- Fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, golf facility operations and tournament operations. Prior experience in all facets of golf operations including inventory and financial control; employee motivation and training; golf instruction; tournament and event management; working knowledge of golf course maintenance, expertise in golfing rules and regulations
- Must have advanced working knowledge of various computer software programs, including GHIN and Golf Now. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Golf Genius tournament software required, and experience with resort event management software and POS preferred.
- Maintain a reliable and punctual work ethic and demonstrate the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Requires excellent interpersonal skills for interacting positively with staff and golfers, including the ability to strive for constant improvement while receiving constructive feedback.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
Essential Responsibilities
Administrative, Personnel & Club Governance
- Adhere to, enforce, and implement policies and procedures of the facility. Develop a list of required resources including personnel, supplies, signage, rental equipment etc.
- Maintain a database of members, outside groups and contacts. Remain up to date on customer relationship management tactics and strategies.
- Develop, update and maintain Event Book detailing, tasks, timelines, responsibilities, contacts, annual tournament schedule and historical record.
- Provide support with prospective members and orientation of new members.
- Oversee the administration of the golf handicap program.
- Manage all personnel functions of pro shop and outside operations by developing, maintaining and evaluating personnel in effective, efficient and safe work practices. Includes hiring, training, scheduling, coaching and submitting time and payroll requirements to HR during pay periods.
- Update and maintain golf shop policies, procedures and job descriptions and ensure they are adhered to and posted in the proper areas.
- Ensure a safe working environment, and a positive and outgoing attitude on the part of all employees in areas of responsibility. Act as a role model for all employees by demonstrating the behavior and work ethic expected of all employees.
- Maintain and promote a positive professional image within the community.
- Maintain safety standards and safety equipment within OSHA requirements.
Golf Operations Management
- Plan, promote, and direct all golf activities, and be responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of golf operations.
- Administer the Rules of Golf and educate staff. Promote and provide Rules of Golf clinics to the membership.
- Manage and execute an innovative tournament program, group outings, clinics, leagues and other related events that service all customer segments.
- Implement and administer a system governing the start of play and the handicap system.
- Supervise the rental and use of golf carts and the maintenance of such equipment, ensuring waivers are completed, driver's licenses are valid and recording cart numbers in the course software platform.
- Provide professional club repair and club fitting services.
- Ensure the proper storage, safety, and cleaning of golf equipment.
- Consult with Owners and the Course Superintendent on golf course and practice range operation, maintenance and rules, reporting and following up maintenance issues that affect golf course playability.
Instruction & Player Development
- Maintain a credible golf game and remain current on teaching innovations. Enthusiastically promote golf and golfing activities with a high-level of service; play golf with golf club members of all skill-levels to generate enthusiasm.
- Develop, provide, and oversee an enhanced golf instruction program offering individual and group clinics for all levels. Ensure that the services of a well-trained staff of professional instructors are available where required.
- Provide competent golf instruction and supervise teaching staff; provide age- and skill appropriate golf lessons to golfers.
- Utilize the resources of PGA programs such as Get Golf Ready, PGA Sports Academy, and other development tools, resources, and materials
- Assist with the training of the full facility staff in regard to player development and encourage their participation.
- Work with employers to develop Player Development marketing, clinic reservations and lesson payment plans.
- Attend conferences, workshops, meetings, and trade shows to keep well-informed of instruction, marketing and business trends.
Pro Shop & Merchandise Management
- Operate and maintain a reputable golf shop that features a range of quality merchandise and services reflective of the golfers' needs.
- Oversee the ordering of merchandise for Pro Shop and provide the best selection possible within the constraints of inventory and quality limits.
- Maintain an attractive and orderly appearance in and around the golf shop, merchandising regularly to update product displays.
- Assist in the development of necessary systems utilizing POS to safeguard inventories, cash and improve sales.
- Supervise and train all golf shop staff to record proper green fees, cart fees, inventory sales and maximize sales opportunities. Establish accurate recordkeeping policies and procedures.
- Ensure customer database includes and tracks important contact information, club credit, dates, spending, sizes, preferences and credits/debits proper accounting references.
- Conduct accurate and timely inventory counts.
Financial & Asset Management
- Ensure protection of Club assets within areas of responsibility. Supervise proper charging of green fees, cart fees, merchandise, and services.
- Review budgets and operating plans for golf operations; identify and present other options that will increase revenue or reduce costs while maintaining the highest quality programs and service possible for members, guests, and golfers.
- Compile reports, budgets, projections and revise procedures as needed. Monitor revenue and expenses to ensure budget goals are met.
Inter-Departmental Coordination
- As a full-service resort, departments must work closely to offer superior hospitality and achieve the goals and objectives of the resort.
- Coordinate with Director of Sales to organize stay and play golf group outings, including contracted tee times, outing formats, food and beverage requests and special events.
- Maintain a close working relationship with the Golf Course Superintendent and provide advice on course playability and tournament set up.
- Coordinate plans with the Food and Beverage department for food and beverage needs for all golf functions.
- Organize with Lodging on group hospitality, room blocks, rate plans and room charges.
- Coordinate with the Brand Manager on marketing and promotional strategies.
- Adapt the course for Summer Concert evenings, including hole abbreviations, closures and signage.
- Keep updated on resort and area activities and amenities to answer guest questions provide excellent customer service.
- Support seasonal business fluctuations and new experiences with adaptability, creativity, and willingness to assist in all other areas as needed. Assist with winter experiences, business development and resort improvements during golf off seasons.
