Description
OverviewThe Golf Merchandise Manager provides strategic leadership of Golf Shop retail operations, overseeing buying, merchandise planning, inventory control, visual presentation, and overall retail performance while delivering an exceptional member and guest experience. Partners closely with the Director of Golf and Professional Staff to support revenue goals and uphold Club standards.
Experience Required
- Past experience as a Retail Associate, Shop Manager, or Merchandiser at a high-end service facility
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Bachelor's degree is preferred
- PGA or AGM Membership is Preferred, Not Required
- Proficiency with standard computer applications
- Ability to learn and utilize club management systems (e.g., ForeTees, Clubessential)
Essential Responsibilities
Success Profile
Demonstrates strong retail acumen and data-driven decision-making. Curates assortments aligned with member preferences, drives revenue while protecting margins, maintains disciplined inventory controls, and builds trusted vendor partnerships to elevate the member experience.
Merchandising Strategy & Buying
• Lead buying and assortment planning for apparel and accessories
• Develop seasonal plans aligned with sales goals and budgets
• Manage open-to-buy; analyze sales, margin, and turnover
• Establish product mix, pricing, and reorder thresholds
• Attend markets and vendor appointments; identify trends and brands
• Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules
• Evaluate vendor performance
Inventory & Retail Operations
• Oversee receiving, stock levels, inventory controls, and cycle counts
• Ensure accuracy and minimize shrink
• Manage special orders and organized storage
• Maintain retail reporting and performance metrics
Sales & Member Experience
• Create a welcoming, service-driven environment
• Provide knowledgeable product recommendations
• Execute promotions, trunk shows, and sales initiatives
• Monitor KPIs to drive revenue and gross margin
• Uphold Club service standards
Golf Operations Support
• Assist with POS transactions and fee collection
• Support reservations and member inquiries
• Collaborate with Golf Professionals and Player Support staff
Visual Merchandising & Presentation
• Maintain a clean, organized, compelling Golf Shop
• Refresh displays to maximize sell-through
• Ensure presentation aligns with Club brand standards
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
• Primarily indoor retail setting with occasional outdoor support
• Regular standing, walking, bending
• Occasional lifting of golf bags and merchandise shipments
