Carolina Lakes Golf Course offers 18 lush emerald bermuda greens and fairways tucked in a gently rolling landscape. Your golfing experience is enhanced with a fully stocked pro-shop, driving range, and restaurant. Private lessons are available from our certified instructors. Our restaurant overlooks the scenic 18th hole and has a wonderful panoramic view of the course from nearly every seat. Dine inside or outside on our large deck with comfortable seating and table umbrellas. Join us for breakfast or lunch, served Monday-Friday. The comfortable, friendly restaurant is a great place for social gatherings of all kinds.

Essential Responsibilities

About the position: This position will be assigned to Shaw AFB, SC

This is a Regular Full Time (RFT) position with benefits (medical, dental, life insurance, retirement, 401(k), and annual/sick leave.

Responsible for the efficient and effective operation of a golf course maintenance program which includes: golf cart fleet, golf course greens/tees, practice areas, ranges, irrigation systems, clubhouse grounds and landscaping, on course restroom facilities, wooded areas, unused acreage and maintenance vehicles and equipment. Plans all maintenance and project work, applying agronomic and administrative expertise to achieve maintenance standards and long-range goals. Diagnoses deficiencies relative to soil disease, desiccation, winter kill, erosion and impact or error in maintaining a complex mix of soil and plant needs for greens, fairways, roughs, trees, scrubs, foliage, ground covers and ornamentals. Determines proper application of grass seed and/or sprigs, plant nutritional products, plant control products, soil and sand mixtures sufficient to maintain course within regulatory and industry standards. Acquires equipment and purchases necessary supplies to maintain golf course properties. Approves all expenditures and exercises cost control measures designed to ensure operating and capital expenses in line with approved budgets. Provides expert advice on renovations, improvements, minor and major construction for rebuilding or new construction of greens, bunkers and tees, additional subterranean irrigation lines, sprinkler heads and additional nursery yardage. Responsible for work force management, recruitment and staff training. Plans and organizes in-service training programs to include safety and the proper methods and uses of motorized turf equipment and application of plant control products. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifying Experience:
Progressively responsible experience in golf course maintenance, which provides a technical knowledge of turf propagation, cultivation, course equipment and mechanics, irrigation and drainage systems and controls, horticulture, and insect/pest control and various turf diseases and remedies. Requires knowledge of personnel management principles and policies sufficient to supervise and direct a staff of ground maintenance employees. Knowledge of grass seeds and sprigs, plant nutritional products, plant control products, and soil and sand mixtures. Knowledge of golf course construction and golfing techniques. Possession of a Class A rating from the Golf Course Superintendent's Associate of America is highly desirable. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Requires current state and/or Federal certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator.
