Job description for a General Manager/Head Golf Professional at Back Nine Of The Desert Rancho Mirage, California
This role combines the leadership and business acumen of a General Manager with the golf expertise and customer-facing skills of a Head Golf Professional. The ideal candidate will be a passionate golfer, technically proficient with golf simulator technology, and possess a strong ability to manage operations, drive revenue, and cultivate an exceptional customer experience.
The General Manager/Head Golf Professional is responsible for the overall operation, performance, and strategic direction of the indoor golf simulator facility. This includes overseeing daily golf operations and driving revenue through golf programs and retail, ensuring simulator maintenance, providing high-quality golf instruction, and delivering an unparalleled customer experience. They will act as a club ambassador, fostering a vibrant community and maintaining the highest standards across all aspects of the business.
- Operations Management:
- Oversee all aspects of daily facility operations, including opening/closing procedures, scheduling, and ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
- Manage tee times, bookings, and reservations, optimizing simulator utilization.
- Ensure proper maintenance and quality control of all golf simulator technology and equipment.
- Manage rental golf equipment, ensuring its availability and good condition.
- Monitor facility infrastructure, including security, safety, and preventative maintenance programs.
- Golf Instruction and Player Development:
- Provide high-quality individual and group golf instruction using simulator and launch monitor technology.
- Develop and implement innovative player development programs for all skill levels, including leagues, tournaments, and junior programs.
- Manage and coordinate all league and tournament activities, including scheduling, scoring, and payouts.
- Conduct club fittings and promote club sales, repairs, and other golf-related merchandise.
- Maintain current knowledge of golf instruction techniques, club fitting technology and rules of golf.
- Financial Management:
- Monitor financial performance, analyze reports, and identify opportunities to increase revenue and reduce costs.
- Oversee customer transactions and handling procedures, inventory control, and ensure accurate record keeping.
- Manage merchandise inventory, purchasing, and display, maximizing profitability.
- Implement sales goals and forecasting for golf programs and services.
- Customer Service and Engagement:
- Ensure a high standard of customer service, resolving inquiries and complaints professionally and efficiently.
- Build relationships with customers and members, fostering loyalty and encouraging repeat business.
- Promote and market the facility and its offerings through various channels, including social media.
- Develop and maintain a customer database.
- Team Leadership and Development:
- Recruit and develop agreements with teaching Golf Pros in the Coachella Valley with a partnership arrangement to supply Golf instruction at Back Nine Of The Desert.
- Provide clear expectations, ongoing feedback, and opportunities for professional development for the team.
- Foster open communication, positive morale, and a supportive work environment.
- Conduct regular feedback meetings with teaching Golf Pros and evaluations.
III. Qualifications and requirements
- Education & Experience:
- PGA Class A member in good standing required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in golf management, including golf instruction, or similar role.
- Experience specifically within indoor golf simulator environments is highly desirable.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Proficiency in golf simulator technology, launch monitors, and swing analysis software.
- Exceptional leadership, management, and supervisory skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills (written, verbal, and public speaking).
- Excellent customer service skills with a member/guest-focused mindset.
- Strong organizational, planning, and prioritization skills.
- Business acumen, including budgeting, financial management, and marketing.
- Proficiency in POS systems, tee sheet management software, and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of USGA Rules of Golf and handicap procedures.
- Passion for the game of golf and promoting its growth.
- Licenses & Certifications:
- PGA Class A membership (required).
- Valid Driver's License (required).
- CPR/AED certification (preferred).
The role involves standing and walking for extended periods, frequent use of hands for handling golf equipment and simulators, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. The work environment is primarily indoors but may involve exposure to various conditions as needed. This position may require working evenings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate business needs
