Description
The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at McGovern Medical School, University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible, fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist for a full-time faculty position.
Applicants with an interest in clinical or basic research are strongly encouraged to apply. This position offers the opportunity to participate actively in the department’s educational mission, including the teaching and mentoring of medical students, residents, and fellows.
Appointment will be considered at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level, commensurate with experience and accomplishments. For accomplished academic physicians with a strong record of clinical excellence, teaching, and scholarly activity who qualify for appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level, a generous endowment will be provided to support educational and research initiatives.

Requirements
Position Responsibilities
This is an academic appointment with expectations for clinical care, teaching, and scholarly activity. The successful candidate will be expected to build a busy clinical practice at the department’s primary location, the Cizik Eye Clinic, located in the Texas Medical Center. Additional responsibilities may include supervision of residents and fellows at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, the primary site of the department’s educational programs.
This position is on an academic track with the potential for tenure.
Qualifications
Applicants must have completed fellowship training or equivalent experience in glaucoma, be board certified or board eligible in ophthalmology, and be eligible for medical licensure in the state of Texas.
Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in patient care, discovery, and service, show strong potential for distinction in their field, and share an interest in advancing the mission of McGovern Medical School at UTHealth. Preferred applicants will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrate strong potential for leadership within the department.
