POSITION SUMMARY

The Genetic Counselor Health professional specializes in the areas of medical genetics and genetic counseling. The Counselor works as a member of the health care and research team, by providing information and support to families who have members with birth defects or genetic disorders, to families who may be at risk for a variety of inherited conditions, and to individuals participating or considering participating in research.

This position serves as an educator and resources for other health care professionals and the general public. The Genetic Counselor also researches projects related to the field of medical genetics, genetic testing and genetic counseling.

This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to team work and cooperation.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Master's degree in Genetic Counseling required.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Valid NJ driver's License required. American Board of Genetic Counseling eligibility/board certification required. New Jersey Licensure eligibility required.

EXPERIENCE: Institutional Review Board experience with Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative Certification preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position requires desk/computer work a majority of the time. This position requires some standing and walking and occasional lifting up to 20 pounds required. The essential functions for this position are listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
