- Exhibits Graphic Technician
Description
The Exhibits Graphic Technician is responsible for designing, fabricating, and maintaining exhibit graphics and signage essential to the Calvert Marine Museum and its functions. The position is responsible for producing a variety of graphic and text layouts, illustrations, and digital images. This position reports to the Curator of Exhibits.
Essential Job Functions
- Creates original illustrations and graphics utilizing various techniques and mediums.
- Designs and produces exhibit panels and brochures using various computer applications.
- Develops logos and style guides for individual exhibits and programs.
- Prepares print text and image panels.
- Develops manuals and publications for use throughout the museum, including the newsletter and blog.
- Formats text of varied subject matter for clear presentation.
- Assists in maintaining exhibit lighting.
- Creates and manipulates digital images using various computer software applications.
- Assists with maintaining the museum website.
- Provides closed captioning text to videos and other mediums for ADA compliance.
- Serves as point of contact between museum and outside vendors, exhibit fabricators, printers, and exhibit component providers.
- Maintains electronic equipment and software for exhibits.

Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (These are pre-employment KSA that apply only to Essential Job Functions.)
Knowledge of--
- Visual arts and displays.
- Graphic design and digital image production.
- Computer and computer graphics.
- Museum exhibit techniques and materials.
- Operation of large format printers, vinyl cutters, hand-held tools, and other shop materials.
Ability to--
- Produce work with a high level of detail and craftsmanship.
- Balance numerous projects simultaneously.
- Meet deadlines and perform under occasional pressures.
- Deal effectively with museum staff, volunteers, and the public.
- Work both independently and as a member of a team.
Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.)
Training and/or Education
Associate’s degree in art, design, graphics, or related field required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience
One year of experience in the production of art for display and education.
Licenses or Certificates
Valid driver’s license.
Physical Demands
Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Installation of museum exhibits, object pieces, and signage requires movement and flexibility, including walking around museum grounds, loading supplies, climbing ladders and scaffolding, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
