Description
The Director of Machining is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational excellence, and continuous improvement of the company’s machining function. This role oversees both the Manufacturing Engineering team and Machine Shop Operations, ensuring safe, efficient, high-quality, and cost-effective production. The Director of Machining partners closely with Quality, Operations, and Leadership to meet business objectives, customer requirements, and long-term growth goals.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and develop Manufacturing Engineers, Machinists, and Supervisors.
Establish long-term machining strategy aligned with company goals, capacity planning, and capital investment.
Drive a culture of accountability, safety, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
Collaborate with executive leadership on operational planning, budgets, and performance metrics.
Oversee process development, CNC programming, tooling strategy, fixturing, and work instruction creation.
Ensure manufacturability of new products through early design reviews and cross-functional collaboration.
Monitor and improve shop floor performance using KPIs
Oversee equipment maintenance, capacity utilization, and scheduling effectiveness.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
10+ years of experience in machining or manufacturing, with progressive leadership responsibility.
Proven experience leading both manufacturing engineering and shop floor operations.
Strong technical knowledge of CNC machining processes, tooling, fixturing, and materials.
