Position Summary
The Vice President for Public Service and Outreach of the University of Georgia (UGA) invites applications for the position of director of the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education & Hotel (Georgia Center).
The director of the Georgia Center provides overall leadership and management of the unit, including responsibility for the administrative, budgetary, and programmatic operations of the Georgia Center and supervising Georgia Center faculty and staff located in Athens. The position reports directly to the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach and is a member of PSO's senior leadership team. This is high-profile role, as the director represents the Georgia Center both within the university community and to external stakeholders with varying interests and backgrounds. The director is based in Athens.
In addition to overseeing the overall management of the Georgia Center, the director serves as Georgia Center's representative within the university community and to a broad range of external clients and stakeholders.
Additional Requirements Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- A track record of executive level leadership managing a large staff and fiscal portfolio is required.
- Evidence of using data to monitor and evaluate program effectiveness is required.
- A track record of successful fundraising is required.
- A deep understanding of the state of Georgia, its governmental structures, workforce, and communities.
- A demonstrated understanding of the land and sea-grant mission and the University's role in public service and outreach to the state of Georgia.
- A commitment to maintaining the highest standards of excellence and integrity in delivering continuing education and hospitality services.
- Extensive background in leading and managing the hospitality and operations of a conference center, hotel, and amenities.
- Prior role within a higher education setting is preferred.
- The successful candidate will have effective communication and interpersonal skills as well as an appreciation for the complexities involved in working on varied issues in a public setting.

- Lead the administrative, budgetary, and overall operational responsibilities of the Georgia Center.
- Manage the operations of a 300,000 sq. ft. conference center with a hotel and two restaurants situated on the campus of the University of Georgia that serves as a gateway for guests to the university.
- Lead a workforce to execute outstanding client work with high levels of customer service, engagement, and excellence across all elements of the center.
- Drive business strategies that show a return on investment and increase space utilization across the Georgia Center's physical assets. Effectively control costs and generate revenues to exceed budgeted bottom line expectations.
- Direct evaluation of services to guide business planning.
- Develop teams to promote success of the entire Georgia Center property. Develop and mentor effective team members to achieve both professional and personal growth.
- Engage with UGA's public service mission and desire to serve the state of Georgia through the experiences created in the conference center. Ensure that team members also model this commitment to public service.
- Work to maintain and enhance Georgia Center's reputation as one of Georgia's top providers of continuing education services, facilities, and opportunities to learners of all ages and backgrounds.
- Create and direct engagement with internships and student experiences to connect Georgia Center operations to UGA student learning and work experiences. Hospitality and Food Industry Management interns serve in hotel, F&B, and event management.
- Build collaborative relationships with internal UGA stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, and administrators. Partner with other organizations within the University to further UGA's outreach mission in Georgia, including the seven other PSO units, Cooperative Extension, and all colleges and schools.
- Develop applied research and scholarship in collaboration with other faculty from campus.
- Demonstrate a commitment to development for private support to advance the mission of the Georgia Center.
- Demonstrate a commitment to service in higher education administration through active campus partnerships, engagement, and effective communication.
- Uphold a commitment to hospitality by providing exceptional service to guests visiting the University of Georgia and participating in campus activities.
