Position Information

Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent and 2 years of professional experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in data visualization, business intelligence, or data analytics. Experience working in higher education, healthcare, or medical education environments.
- Familiarity with student information systems (e.g., Banner) and learning management systems (e.g., D2L).
- Understanding of predictive analytics and machine learning applications.
- Experience automating data workflows and processes.
- Certifications in data visualization or analytics platforms.
The Data Visualization Specialist will clean, transform, and present complex data in intuitive and impactful dashboards that drive decision-making and institutional advancement. This role is critical in ensuring data accessibility, accuracy, and usability for leadership, faculty, and stakeholders. The Data Visualization Specialist will collaborate with the School of Medicine's leadership, faculty, and central IT to develop reports and dashboards that support academic, research, and operational needs.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent. Strong SQL skills and experience with data transformation (ETL) processes.
- Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance frameworks (HIPAA, FERPA, etc.).
- Experience working with large datasets and integrating data from multiple sources.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work across technical and non-technical teams.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Sit at computer for long periods of time.
Occasional travel may be required for meetings or conferences.

Data Cleaning & Transformation:
Extract, clean, and structure data from multiple sources to ensure accuracy, consistency, and usability.
Dashboard Development:
Design and implement interactive and visually compelling dashboards to support decision-making in medical education, research, and administration.
Percentage of time 50 Duties/Responsibilities
Collaboration with Central IT and the Office of Institutional Research (OIR):
Work closely with UGA's Enterprise Information Technology Services (EITS) and OIR to create standardized reports and fulfill university data requests.
Data Integration & Management:
Work with the SOM Data Architect to develop and maintain data pipelines to ensure seamless integration of data from various internal and external sources.

Reporting & Analysis:
Generate reports that provide actionable insights into student performance, faculty productivity, clinical partnerships, and institutional outcomes.
User Training & Support:
Provide training and support to faculty and staff on using dashboards and interpreting data for strategic decision-making.
