Job Description
The Second Line of Defense (2LOD) Controls Testing (Consultant, Risk) partner will be an individual contributor who will work closely with peers, stakeholders, and leadership on the Second Line's Controls Testing and Assurance program.
This role is evolving beyond traditional control testing and will play a key role in supporting a risk-based assurance model, including the assessment of Enterprise-Level Controls (ELCs) and overall control environment effectiveness across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform 2LOD review and challenge (assurance) over control testing activities, evaluating whether controls and programs are operating effectively based on evidence, outcomes, and risk indicators
• Execute Enterprise-Level Control (ELC) assessments, evaluating the effectiveness of governance, risk management, and oversight programs using a combination of metrics, evidence, and structured judgment
• Analyze key risk and performance metrics (e.g., overdue issues, repeat findings, escalation behavior) to identify trends, emerging risks, and potential control weaknesses
• Conduct targeted deep dives where metrics or outcomes indicate deterioration or inconsistency in control performance
• Support development and application of risk-based, non-binary assessment methodologies, balancing quantitative metrics with contextual analysis to arrive at defensible conclusions
• Perform 2LOD validation work, including planning, execution, maintenance of workpapers, identification of findings, and reporting results to risk committees
• Evaluate control design and operating effectiveness, determine exposure to risk, and partner with business and control owners to develop remediation strategies
• Support the aggregation of control and program-level results into enterprise-level effectiveness ratings, contributing to ERM framework monitoring and reporting
• Contribute to the design and enhancement of 2LOD methodologies, including ELC frameworks, metrics, and effectiveness rating models
• Provide Second-Line insights and reporting to Risk Management leadership, ensuring timely and clear communication of findings and risk themes
• Demonstrate strong understanding of the Three Lines of Defense model and apply it consistently across assurance activities
• Communicate findings and insights clearly to both technical and business stakeholders, ensuring alignment and understanding
• Apply strong risk assessment and analytical skills to identify key risks, control gaps, and improvement opportunities
• Exhibit strong project management skills, managing multiple priorities in a dynamic and evolving environment
